Restaurant Week

This week in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is Restaurant Week, a week where restaurants offer pre-fix 3-course meals for $35.  Apparently, they have been taking reservations since the middle of July, and when I finally went to make reservations, you could tell which restaurants were more popular or at least a better deal.  We originally made reservations at Grace, a restaurant in downtown Fort Worth, but had to change the date.  In the end, we ate at Tillman's Roadhouse near 7th Street in Fort Worth, which had been recommended to us by several people.

Hubby and I looked through the restaurant week offerings and ended up with the same three courses.  We started with the Bibb & Blue salad, which was topped with bacon bites and candied pecans.  The salad was light and fresh with a bit of a kick from the dressing.  For our entree, we each got the Post Oak Smoked Baby Back Ribs, which were smother in chipotle barbecue sauce and served with mac & cheese.  The ribs were too spicy for me after the second one, but hubby delighted in the increasing heat.  I did enjoy the mac & cheese that was topped with bacon, cheddar, and scallions... but who doesn't like something with bacon?  For dessert, we each got a s'more made with a homemade maple marshmallow.  The s'more was delicious, though it did leave us wanting more.

Our salads looked like blooming flowers.  It was such a pretty presentation.

The chipotle BBQ sauce had quite the kick, but the mac & cheese balanced the spice.

I used the flash to take this picture because all the gooey deliciousness of the s'more needed to be captured.  I promise to bring along a better camera for the next meal out.

We really did want more dessert after dinner, and we walked over to Sweet Sammies, which offers ice cream sandwiches made from your choice of ice cream and homemade cookie.  It's a brilliant idea.  Hubby and I had been there once before when he first started working in Fort Worth.  It was perfect because he wanted ice cream and I wanted a cookie.  This time, we both had ice cream sandwiches.  I made mine with chocolate chip cookies and caramel turtle fudge ice cream in the middle.  Hubby went the sugar cookie route with krazy kookie dough, which was a rainbow explosion of birthday cake ice cream with chunks of sugar cookie dough.  Hubby's face lit up as he took his first bite of a sandwich he knew was the perfect pairing.

Sweet Sammies ice cream sandwiches are the perfect summer treat!

When we got back home from dinner (and our double dessert), we found a package waiting for us.  We've been married for almost two months, and the wedding gifts have stopped coming in.  So, we were surprised to open a belated wedding gift from my younger sister's best friend, who was such a help at the wedding.  She was so sweet to get us a gift, especially such a cool gift.  Hubby is a big coffee drinker, and I enjoy a latte from our Nespresso machine.  So, the gift of mugs is perfect!  They will be a perfect addition to our growing collection.

They have faces!  How cool is that!
